"The future will not be shaped
by political parties and governments,
but by people."
We all are part of a living organism, the organism of the earth.
We all breathe the same air, use the same water; the same planet is our home and we all live from its resources.
Living in this part of the world means living in material wealth and mainly without fear of life-threatening attacks. We see this privileged situation as a challenge and a responsibility. Our vision is the realization of inner and outer peace and a lifestyle which is no longer based on the exploitation of other parts of the world.
Our planet's current situation is determined by the interests of corporate globalisation and its consequences: wars and everyday violence; increasing depletion of the planet's resources and destruction of the environment caused by our consumption; the continued absence of concepts for sustainable economics and employment; and the destruction of biological, ethnic, religious and cultural diversity.
Resistance to this sort of politics is needed, and it is also necessary to build up the alternatives: lifestyle models which are not consumption-oriented and which work on conflict-resolution strategies leading to understanding and reconciliation.
Communities are an important source of impetus and inspiration for society. They show that sustainability doesn't mean abstinence – it actually leads to a higher quality of life. Communities can be networking centres and training places, places where a world that not yet is, can be anticipated. A different world is a world where people move closer together and think and act communally.
The globalisation of humanism can arise out of a worldwide network of diverse, self-determining peacemaking initiatives and committed activists.
With this in mind we are active within GEN (the Global Ecovillage Network): www.gen-europe.org.
In addition we are working to make our region a model of ecologically and socially sustainable development. Longterm goals for an autonomous regional development as we see it are: finding corporation -free sources for renewable energy and food (if possible from the region, grown organically fairtrade products), as well as developing cooperative solutions for healthcare and retirement provision and independent options for schooling and training. We are a member of Attac (international anti-globalisation network), participate in actions for GM-technology free agriculture and against war and racism.
The Political Salon's role is to coordinate the community's public relations work and political activities.
