Is our region Fläming ready to become a Transition Region? This was the question posed last Monday which opened an inspiring meeting held at the Wiesenburg Station co-operative centre. Seven ZEGG residents attended.
There are many initiatives already taking place in Fläming – from renewable energy to the citizens' bus, the community agriculture scheme SVG Lübnitz, free schools, natural health, and cultural projects. So one question was whether the orientation towards the Transition movement could offer further benefits. One interesting point turned out to be a consideration of the aspects that are not yet represented here in our region. In other words, the existing projects represent individual aspects of a post-fossil fuel way of living, but not all. And there is networking, but little common direction. Compared to a collection of individual projects, coming together as a Transition Region could offer the possibility of strengthening communication with local government and a chance to be taken more seriously by a broader audience.
At the end of this first event, 20 people registered their interest in continuing the exploration by coming to a second meeting to be organised by the host and initiator Dorothee Bornath.
