Baltic Sea Meeting ZEGG-4And the series of international meetings hosted by ZEGG continued. The young ecovillagers from NextGEN had only just departed at the beginning of October when the first participants arrived for a conference hosted by ZEGG as part of the EU Program "Baltic Sea Region - Ecovillages for sustainable rural development". The meeting was the sixth for this project, which aims to compile manuals and an internet portal with practical examples of ecovillages and related projects in the countries around the Baltic Sea.

During the conference in ZEGG, participants toured the surrounding Fläming region to visit sustainable projects. As well as ZEGG, the tour included the nearby village of Feldheim (the first energy self-sufficient village in Germany), the community Lebensgut Lübnitz, the Ökokombinat sustainable timber company and the Wiesenburg railway station cooperative. The latter three projects have very close links to ZEGG, with current or ex-members involved in their establishment. This is a clear example of how ZEGG is contributing to the wider development of the local region.
Participants in the EU program come from Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Finland and Sweden. They include permaculture experts, scientists from agricultural institutes and business representatives. Ina Meyer-Stoll and Achim Ecker from ZEGG have been partners in the program since its beginning and acted as hosts for this conference.
